The area surrounding the Blackwood Valley in the south west of Western Australia grows the widest range of fruit and vegetables in all of Australia. This collective of producers showcase some of the most delicious and unusual products of the region. Chestnut Brae, Lake Janis Farm, Southern Forest Green Tea, The Cidery, Truffle Hill and the Organic Fine Food Company offer visitors a taster of the bounty this region produces.
All of the producers in this collective are passionate organic or regenerative farmers, they are small producers working together to bring a taste of something different to Origins Market.
Chestnut Brae Farm is 70 idyllic acres of mature organic sweet chestnut forests that were planted biodynamically in 1985, mushroom crops, heirloom vegetables and heritage animals that are all farmed sustainably using regenerative agriculture and holistic management.
Our sweet chestnut trees (Castanea sativa) produce 12 tonne of chestnuts each Autumn. Chestnut Brae uses grazing animals to help build microbial activity in the soil to increase soil health. Our pasture raised animals, fed with sweet chestnuts, produce the sweetest flavoured meat you will experience. From the chestnuts we produce organic gluten free chestnut flour, chestnuts in syrup, peeled frozen chestnuts and a range of other chestnut based products and from our beautiful European looking orchards we produce Chestnut Honey and Chestnut Orchard Honey.
The Cidery handcrafts artisan Ciders, Beers, Gin, and Wine from local primary produce to value add to the Southwest of WA’s amazing tourism experience. Their multi-award winning Blackwood Chestnut Ale is handcrafted from Sweet Chestnuts from Chestnut Brae, Nannup, and our Blackwood Truffle Ale is handcrafted from Black Perigord Truffles from Truffle Hill, Manjimup.
The Organic Fine Food Company
The Organic Fine Food Company is a Regenerative Organic Farm meaning we harness and promote practices that result in the growth and production of healthy plants, animals, people, planet and “food that is medicine”.
Truffle Hill was established in 1997, when a small group of family and friends invested into a dream to produce and share Australia’s fresh Black Perigord Truffles with the world.
This dream became a reality at the heart of Western Australia’s famed Seven Day Road, in the town of Manjimup; and became Western Australia’s first commercial truffière. The first distinctly aromatic truffle was unearthed on the 28th of July 2003; a perfect Black Truffle weighing 168 grams.
Today, surrounded by vineyards, orchards and majestic rolling hills, our estate has grown to be known as the finest producer of Black Truffles (Tuber melanosporum) in the Southern Hemisphere. The truffière comprises over 40kms of rows of hazel trees and oaks, the host trees for the truffle fungus. A further 20kms of rows have been established in recent years.
With over 30 years farming experience on their property in Pemberton, Dean and Julia are passionate about regenerative and organic farming practices. At Origins, Lake Janis Produce will offer a diverse range of nutrient rich paddock to plate produce including organic avocados, potatoes and seedless lemons, Kiwi Gold and meat (beef and sheep). His jersey beef is truly special.
Southern Forest Green Tea
We are farmers in the Southern Forest region 5 hours drive from the capital city of Perth, located 15km from the small friendly town of Northcliffe.The Southern Forests proved to have ideal growing conditions for Camellia Sinensis, coupled with high rainfall, acidic soil and the added bonus of not having pests that usually eat the tea. The plantation is completely organically grown, we do not use pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. Core to our beliefs is that a healthy drink must be free of any contaminants.
