Weaving traditional Scandinavian Rugs dates from the 1800s and is a craft that has been passed on from generation to generation in Sonja Hedstrom’s Finnish family. She uses traditional wooden floor looms to hand-weave beautiful rugs to order. Visitors to Origins will be able to watch her creating these beautiful upcycled Scandinavian rugs on the loom. She uses recycled textiles sourced from second-hand stores and off cuts from the fashion industry. No two rugs are ever alike; and with no glues or toxic chemicals, they’re also 100% eco-friendly. Inspiration comes from a mix of deep Scandinavian tradition and Australian beach lifestyle. She moved with her family to the south west of WA from Finland in 2012.
