Meet the Makers of Origins Market

Meet Jemima (the cow)…she’s one of the many local faces you’ll come to know and love at Origins Market when it opens this November in Busselton.

Jemima’s owner, Hayden Russell is the dedicated farmer behind WA’s first ever micro-dairy, The Cheeky Cow He and his partner Beth, are on a mission to do dairy differently and to do it better. From regenerative farming practices to reusable Australian-made glass milk bottles, their passion for sustainability flows through every aspect of their business. They’ll proudly be selling their fresh milk, yoghurt and WA cheese at Origins Market.

Showcasing 100% local, Origins is unlike anything ever seen in WA before, bringing together like-minded growers, makers and creators for 3000 square meters of sensory heaven.

Designed with the world’s best food markets in mind (think Borough Markets in London or Barcelona’s Mercado de La Boqueria) Origins Market is set to unearth the best of the state for the local community and tourists to enjoy. From award-winning gelato makers to specialty butchers, bakers, fish mongers, oyster shuckers, distillers, brewers and coffee roasters, there’s dedication and authenticity behind every product that’s available at Origins.

Origins Market intends to blur the line between production and consumption, with some unique aspects on-site including an incubator kitchen to help small businesses get their products to market, and an in-house observational beehive, educating consumers on the important role bees play in the ecosystem.

Who can you expect to find at Origins Market this November?

Butchers, fishmongers, bakers, brewers, wine makers, fruit and vegetable growers, chefs and baristas. A broad spectrum of some of the finest local eateries including dumpling bar, a tacotoria, a pizzeria; mocktails, gozleme, gelato and so much more. WA makers and creators take centre stage including local jewellery makers, potters, timber craftsman, artists and photographers. It’s a celebration of WA unlike any other!

See below to Meet some of our Makers. And follow the journey to launch @originsmarket.

Meet Hayden, Beth, Marnie (& Jemima) from our local dairy, The Cheeky Cow
Dairy holds a very special place in the hearts and bellies of West Australians, so good-quality best practice dairy makes a real difference when it comes to preparing the food that we eat. Cheeky Cow will be on-site at Origins to offer fresh dairy products, including a glass milk bottle return service, local cheeses and artisanal yoghurts.

Meet Shemia from Core Produce

If you’re a fan of pickles and seafood, Get Pickled and Get Shucked are serving up the best of both worlds, with tangy pickled octopus and fresh, juicy oysters- shucked live we might add.

Having scooped the prestigious ‘Champion Gelato’ award at the recent Perth Royal Food Awards, SubZero is made daily with the freshest ingredients and will be available in a range of tantalising flavours at Origins. Be warned, it’ll be love at first scoop!

Meet Made & Shana from The Balinese Butcher
Think sates, butterflied chicken and speciality hand-made sausages, this butchery will be unlike any other in WA. Made originates from Bali and him and his wife, Shana (having owned very successful butchery businesses before), have decided to make Origins their home as they return to Made’s cuisine of his homeland, Bali. We’re in for a real treat…

The above is just a taste of what to expect when Origins opens its doors on 5 November. If you’re a great local producer, maker, creator or retailer, don’t delay. Contact Deon on deon@originsmarket.com.au or call 0448 705 390.
