Origins Market looks set to reel in the area’s best producers and artisans, boosting the local economy and community morale as it does so.

Local, sustainably-sourced products will be the order of the day at Origins Market (launching in Spring 2021). Expected to provide a much-needed boost to growers and producers, ensuring that more of the profits return to the source, the farmers and fishermen; here’s the inspirational story behind just one of the market’s future offerings…

Along with many other commercial fisherman, Anthony Heslewood found his livelihood blown out of the water when the COVID-19 pandemic struck earlier this year. With all exports cancelled, fishing nets and lines were hung up for months on end. Upon hearing about Origins Market however, Anthony feels like he’s been given a second chance to pursue his twin passions: sustainably-caught fish and his hometown of Bussleton.

“As soon as I heard about Origins Market, I knew that it would be an amazing opportunity for me to get back to my roots and start fishing again. I’ve rebranded my business and begun to focus less on high value export products and more on the kinds of catches suited to our local demographic,” says Anthony.

His new venture, Revolution Fisheries, seeks to revolutionise the way we buy and eat fish. In his own words:

“I really value sustainable fishing and seek to minimise waste too.” Anthony adds, “So rather than just catch more fish, I use more of the fish I have caught – and want to educate more people on how to do this too. I can’t wait to showcase the amazing, sustainable seafood products that I catch around our shores. From the humble herring all the way to the deep sea giant crabs, I want to supply our local community with A-class, incredibly fresh, sustainably caught and ethically handled fresh seafood products.”

All of Revolution Fisheries’ offerings are caught by hook and line – known to be among the most sustainable fishing practices available.

Unlike any other market in the region, Anthony’s daily catches will be displayed on ice instead of pre-packaged. Much like a butcher’s display, a variety of cuts and fish will be on offer, expertly handled and prepared. And with a commercial kitchen available for market vendors to use, Anthony is excited about creating pre-made meals for the public to enjoy along with his fresh seafood range.

“As a lifelong Busselton local, my passion for our local produce is unbridled. Origins Market gives me the chance to share this passion with the community I grew up in. It’s also the platform that has enabled me to get back into the fishing industry and grow my business out of the rubble that Covid 19 has left behind,” Anthony adds.

Epitomising the ethos behind Origins Market, Revolution Fisheries will be joined by no less than 100 other like-minded local vendors. Together, they will represent the region’s most celebrated farmers, producers, winemakers, artisans, and creators – all under one roof.

“We’re creating a space and community that does not currently exist in Western Australia,” says visionary founder, Allan Erceg, “One that connects both locals and visitors alike with the very best produce and products our region has to offer.”
